[PubMed]) transfected miRNAs into human cells and identified genes that changed expression levels. When miR-124 was transfected,
174 genes were downregulated. Of these, the accessions of 161 annotated transcripts are available from GenBank.
The sequence of miR-124 is
3' - ACCGUAAGUGGCGCACGGAAU - 5'
and the authors wanted to test the hypothesis that a good "seed" match (to the red bases above) is a key aspect of miRNA target action.
