Connecting to the hebrides application server and transferring files
Mac OS 9
- To Connect to hebrides
- Download and install MacSSH from the MacSSH Home (click for link)
- Launch MacSSH
- Select File -> Open Connection
- For Host Name, enter hebrides.wi.mit.edu
- Required: checkmark the "Secure Shell v2" box
- Enter your hebrides username and password when prompted
- If asked about accepting a certificate, select Accept & Save
- To Transfer Files with hebrides
- Download and install MacSFTP from the MacSFTP Home (click for link)
- Launch MacSFTP
- Select File -> New Connection
- For Host Name, enter hebrides.wi.mit.edu
- For Username and Password, enter your hebrides username and password
- Use the Remote->Put or Remote->Get functions to upload and download files
Mac OS X
- To Connect to hebrides
- Launch the terminal application (/Applications/Utilities/terminal).
- For connecting, type ssh -l username hebrides.wi.mit.edu,
where username is the username of your hebrides account
- To Transfer Files with hebrides
- Launch the terminal application (/Applications/Utilities/terminal)
- For file transfer, type sftp username@hebrides.wi.mit.edu,
where username is the username of your hebrides account
Windows
- To use the standard Windows Command Prompt
- Choose the Start menu and select Run... Type cmd in the Run box
- For connecting, Windows doesn't come with any ssh (secure shell) software, so you'll need another system [see below].
- For file transfer, ftp hebrides.wi.mit.edu, and give your username and password when prompted.
- To use SSH.com's secure shell graphical application
- Download and install the SSHSecureShellClient from
SSH.
The file you need looks like SSHSecureShellClient-?.?.?.exe (with the version in place of ?.?.?)
- For connecting:
- Click on the SSH secure shell icon
- Click on "Quick Connect", entering hebrides.wi.mit.edu for "Host Name" and your hebrides account name for "User Name".
- After entering your password, you should be on hebrides.
- For file transfer:
- Click on the SSH secure file transfer icon.
- Click on "Quick Connect", entering hebrides.wi.mit.edu for "Host Name" and your hebrides account name for "User Name".
- Select a file to download and click on the arrow pointing down;
- To upload a file, click on the arrow pointing up and select a file to upload.
